Kicking off Community and Sustainability: Globalfields Sponsors the Quedgeley Wanderers Youth Girls Football Club

Globalfields' analyst Areeba Ramzan conducted an interview with football coach Ian to talk about the importance of grassroots football and Globalfields' sponsorship to the team.

At Globalfields, we recognise the importance of local grassroots projects that can foster thriving communities and well-being. Over the last year and a half, we have proudly sponsored the Quedgeley Wanderers Youth Girls Football team in Gloucester, providing fully funded football kits to girls with a football passion.

Recently, I had the pleasure of speaking to Ian, the team's dedicated coach at Quedgeley Wanderers, to explore the importance of grassroots youth football and its surprising link to social and environmental sustainability.

I began by asking Ian about his journey into coaching the youth girls club. His answer was heartfelt:

‘At the end of their first season with the club, the girls’ team head coach was stepping down. The club asked me to transfer over so they could continue competing as a team, which I did in a heartbeat.’

What truly stood out is when asked about the most rewarding aspects of coaching the team, Ian stated that it was ‘watching them thrive and watching them grow from a group of individuals, some of whom live a great distance from each other, into a team of friends.’

Reusing and repurposing of old kits for another youth football team in Thailand

Evidently, the Quedgeley Wanderers are not just a football team; they form a unique community of girls and their families. Ian mentioned how these girls attend a total of six different schools in the area, yet the team unites them, bringing together their families and friends to every match.

And this is where Globalfields steps in, providing more than just training apparel and funding for kits. Ian shared his touching thoughts on our sponsorship:

‘Thanks to Globalfields, the girls look the part, and feeling confident in what you wear is half the battle.’

The newest home kit

While Globalfields works on an international scale – working closely with individuals, organisations, and teams across the globe to tackle the global climate crisis – we also acknowledge the importance of local communities. Our support of teams like the Quedgeley Wanderers allows us to see how community-driven projects have the ability to flourish with the right support.

Here at Globalfields sustainability is woven into everything we do. Our sponsorship incorporates a further layer of awareness of sustainability and environmental actions within the team. Ian mentioned that because of this, ‘all our old kits are reused for younger age groups that don’t have a kit yet. Plus, our former coach, who has moved to Thailand, reuses the kit for his youth team.’

In closing, this interview with Ian was a heartwarming and eye-opening reminder of the importance of our sponsorship. It goes beyond just funding, but also fostering a sense of community, empowering young girls and embedding sustainability as best as we can in everything that we do. Thank you Ian for your insight!
